Note-Taking. The Quiet Habit That Helped Me Grow
I’ve always been a note-taker.
Even before digital tools existed, I was the girl with notepads, journals, post-its on the wall, table etc. and color-coded note cards for everything.
Note-taking was never just about remembering, it was how I made sense of things.
I didn’t know it then, but that simple habit would become the system that shaped how I work, how I plan, and eventually, how I build businesses.
I started young. Ever since, I was already capturing every idea, writing things down because I had no one to remind me what to do next, no one to keep me on track but myself.
From school notes to song lyrics, prayer journals to client workflows, writing helped me survive and thrive. I never relied on memory alone. I relied on systems, too.
Then February 2024 happened, we were robbed. While we were asleep in our own home, someone broke in and took everything including my laptop, my backup phones, even my eyeglasses. All my digital files: my work, personal notes, templates, and backups were gone. Even my cloud backup was erased. For someone who’s always relied on her second brain, it felt like I lost a part of myself. But maybe… that’s where God made room for something new.
In the months that followed, I found myself starting from zero. And while that was painful, it gave me a rare chance to rebuild my system with more clarity.
That’s when I truly explored Notion.
It wasn’t the first time I heard about it but this time, I gave it my full attention.
And honestly? It was everything I needed. Simple, clean, flexible.
I wasn’t locked into one format. I could create workspaces that reflected exactly how my brain works.
Now, I use Notion to:
Plan and manage client projects.
Track content and course ideas.
Organize home tasks, bills, grocery lists.
Document routines, workflows, and processes.
Brain dump new business concepts and see them come to life.
Notion became my new second brain and it’s one I can protect, back up, and build on.
Here’s the beautiful part: my habit of organized note-taking became the foundation for real things.
When my husband started our family food business, I jumped in to help.
But I didn’t just offer support, I built systems. From order tracking to inventory logs, from delivery processes to customer lists, I created a backend using notes, spreadsheets, and eventually, Notion pages. I wrote it all down. Mapped it. Structured it. Made it easy to follow and grow.
And when I finally launched my digital marketing business, Creathink Digital, the foundation came from those same habits:
Notes that turned into client workflows.
Ideas that turned into services.
Scribbles that turned into strategy.
My system didn’t just help me stay organized. It helped me build businesses.
It’s not about fancy tools, it’s about consistency. Yes, I’ve experimented with a few methods over the years but at the core, it’s simple: Capture what matters. Organize it in a way you can trust.
Use it to create.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be yours.
Being a note-taker has saved my life more than once. It’s what kept me grounded as a young girl trying to survive.
It’s what helped me start again after a robbery that stripped me of everything. And it’s what gave me the tools to build businesses while raising a family.
So if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the chaos, my advice is this: Start writing things down.
Whether it’s Notion, a planner, a folder in your phone, or a piece of paper…
Give your thoughts a home.
Create your own second brain.
You never know when it might be the one thing that helps you rise again.
