The journey that changed my life

15 years in the remote work industry and also celebrating 13 years of www.thevirtualassistantdiary.com

15 Years of working remotely

Fifteen years ago, I said yes to something I didn’t fully understand yet.

Working online.

No fancy title, no clear path. Just a laptop, shaky internet, and a quiet but persistent hope that this could be the kind of work that would give me more time, more purpose, and more space to live life on my terms.

I still remember it like it was yesterday, my first VA gig.

I was a back-office admin for a small Australian organization.

The tasks were simple, but the shift was huge.

I wasn’t commuting anymore. I could breathe between tasks. I was finally building something of my own, even if I didn’t fully see it then.

It started out as a side hustle but the more I explored this path, the more I realized it wasn’t just about income.

It was about freedom.

The kind of freedom that let me be present for my family, support my mom when she got sick, and say yes to things that actually mattered to me.

That decision to leave corporate in 2011 felt bold. Risky. But it was also the beginning of a life I only used to dream about. Being able to work from anywhere, earn sustainably, and grow in ways I never imagined.

The Virtual Assistant Diary – the digital platform that was with me in my journey.

In 2010, I created thevirtualassistantdiary.wordpress.org. And in 2012, launch www.thevirtualassistantdiary.com

I didn’t know much about blogging, but I knew I wanted to write. I wanted to remember my journey.

The little wins, the big mistakes, the scary shifts, and the random things I Googled at 2 AM. I thought: If one person finds this helpful, it’s worth it.

I didn’t blog regularly. Life got in the way.

Projects came and went, I started a business, got married, became a mom, and paused so many times. But I never stopped believing in the power of this space.

It’s not just a blog. It’s my digital diary.

A quiet witness to my growth. A place that never judged me when I had to pause, re-evaluate, or begin again.

And now? The blog has turned 13 years old.

It’s not loud, not viral, but it’s mine. And it’s still here.

This 2025, I’m finally doing something I’ve long dreamed of and that is launching my own VA learning space through courses.thevirtualassistantdiary.com.

It’s not going to be your usual downloadable, PDF-heavy type of course. If you know me, you know I believe in depth, practicality, and mentoring with heart.

This course platform is built for women like me, those who want to do meaningful work from home without sacrificing who they are.

It’s for the beginner who’s scared.
The mom who wants to be present.
The professional looking for a second chance.

It’s for you, if you’re reading this and thinking, Can I really do this too?
The answer is yes. I’ve been there, and I’m still here.

To the women and moms out there like me…

I didn’t get here overnight. I took detours, made mistakes, and cried when things didn’t go as planned. But through it all, I held on to one thing: this is the life I prayed for. Not always easy, but always worth it.

To the woman reading this, feeling stuck or unsure,
you are not behind.
You are not too late.
You’re simply being prepared.
And when you’re ready, this space will be here for you.

The Virtual Assistant Diary isn’t just a blog anymore.

It’s a home.
A learning hub.
A space built with care, experience, and so much heart.

Cheers to the next 15 years and to all the women who dare to dream, start over, and write their own stories.
